Happy holiday season, Brevard County! Here at Florida Moving Systems, we want your holiday season to be as enjoyable as possible. We realize that is not always the case for everyone. Perhaps you are finding yourself lonely this December. We are blessed to live in a beautiful area that offers a wide variety of things to do during the holiday season and all year round. Whether you just don’t have a large family or are stationed at nearby Patrick Air Force Base far from all your family and friends, we have come up with some suggestions for ways to fill your time and help combat any “holiday blues.”
A great way to get your mind off feeling lonely is to spend time serving others. These “others” may include furry versions too! We’re not talking about Santa with his fluffy beard. We’re talking about the Brevard Humane Society! You can spend time volunteering at the shelter. It has been proven that animals have a therapeutic effect on us humans. You may even want to bring your volunteering closer to home by fostering a dog or cat. And, if the thought of fostering and then giving your new fluffy friend to someone else doesn’t quite fit your needs, then you can adopt! A sure way to never feel lonely is to always have a furry buddy around to talk to, take for walks, and share your day.
Perhaps you have friends and family to shop for, but they are all in other cities and states. There is a great option for shopping that is sure to bring you holiday cheer! Historic Downtown Melbourne offers great holiday shopping that is even better on Saturday nights between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The shops are open later and are decorated beautifully. Many of the shops are even serving little treats like cookies and hot cider to enhance your shopping experience. There are carriage rides and live holiday music, as well. Even if you have one person to buy for, the trip to Historic Downtown Melbourne is worth the visit.
Lastly, we have to mention something that you only find in an awesome beach community like ours…Surfing Santas! There are multiple ways to participate in this fun event that takes place at Cocoa Beach on Christmas Eve morning. If you enjoy surfing, you can join the other surfers dressed up like Santa and hit the waves. There is also a costume contest for anyone who wishes to dress up in Christmas attire…surely there is a Mrs. Claus or an elf out there among you. If you are a bit more low-key, then you can simply join others on the beach as a spectator of this fun and festive event.
However you choose to fill your time, we at Florida Moving Systems are wishing you much holiday cheer!
