We know that moving into a new house, or even a rental that is simply new to you, can be really exciting! It doesn’t have to be a brand new house or even a house you are buying. Moving can be a fun and exciting experience. Whether you have moved within the same town that you love or moved across the country, getting settled into your new place is fun and special. You may have just moved or maybe you have been in your house for years. Regardless of how long you have lived there, we thought it might be helpful to provide you with a list of how often certain things should be done in your house to keep everything in good working order. We hope you find it helpful!/
How often should you have your home inspected for termites or other insects?
Experts recommend having your home inspected for termites every year. This is especially important if you have had termites in the past because it may mean that you live in an area that is prone to them. As for other insects, you usually know if you are having an issue. If you wake up to ants on the counter every day or cockroaches running across the room, it is time to call a pest control company to help you get those pests under control!/
How often should you check fire alarms/smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detectors?
These devices generally let you know when their battery is running low by emitting an annoying, repetitive beep. But, if you have an older device, it may not do this. The standard suggestion is to change the batteries in these devices when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings time changes in the spring and fall. If they ever do away with these time changes like they have discussed, then you should do it every six months. You may feel like you are wasting perfectly good batteries. But, it is important for the safety of you and your family that these devices are working, so please follow this guideline. You can still re-use the batteries you remove in an unimportant device like a television remote.
How often should you change your air filters?
Air filters are an easy thing to forget about because they are hidden behind our vents. It may seem unimportant to change these, but it is actually essential. The cleanliness of the air you breathe can affect your health, particularly for those suffering from allergies. Also, a clogged air filter can cause a backup of dust and pet hair in your air system causing costly repairs to your air conditioner or heater unit. The filters don’t cost much and are much cheaper than those repairs! When you purchase an air filter, it says on the package how long it is good, but a good rule of thumb is to change them every thirty days if you have multiple pets, every sixty days if you have one pet, and every ninety days if you have no pets.
