Cross Country Moves

Whether you are making a move for the military, to change jobs or careers, to be closer to family, or to settle down for retirement, we know that moving is a big task. When that move is not local and includes crossing multiple state lines, we understand that the big task just got even bigger. So, where do you start? Your first step should be to call your local movers at Florida Moving Systems. We can explain all the services we offer including packing, moving, and storage. We will do all that we can to work with your budget and make your big task feel at least a little smaller!

We have partnered with the Updater app which is a great tool to use when making your cross-country move. It decreases the task of making tons of phone calls or being online for hours. These are hours you can spend doing other things to expedite your move or simply sitting down with your family to take a break from the business of moving.

The Updater app allows you to do things like get your utilities connected and have your mail forwarded to your new address. It is a one-stop “shop” for what would otherwise require multiple phone calls, websites, and possibly even errands to the locations. What a timesaver!

When making a cross-country move, there are many things to be considered. Although our Updater app can help with a lot, there are some things you will need to do that it can’t help you do. If you have children, you will need to find out what school district your house is in and get them registered for school. You will also need to register your vehicles in your new home state, but this probably cannot be done until you have arrived there. Some states require the vehicle to be present before they will register it or issue a new license plate. Additionally, you will need to obtain a driver’s license for your new state.

You will want to keep some kind of folder containing important documents with you during the move where you have easy access to it, such as in your suitcase. You should have your documents showing the address of the house you are renting or purchasing. This is usually required for school registration. It may also be required when registering your vehicle. You should keep birth certificates and immunization records with you, as well. If you own passports, even though you are not moving out of the country, it is a good idea to have them with you, as most places accept them as a form of identification when they want you to have more than just a driver’s license.

While all of this has to be done by you, the customer, Florida Moving Systems of Melbourne, FL can handle the packing and long-distance moving of all your household goods. Additionally, if you need to store your items for a period of time for any reason, we offer state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled storage facilities in Brevard County. Please give us a call today and let us get you moving!

Military Family Members Left Behind During the Holidays

Written by Blog Editor on . Posted in Movers, moving company

As a follow-up to our blog about things to do to honor your military service member while he or she is gone overseas during the holidays, we wanted to also do a blog about the family members of those serving our country. Unless you have a loved one that has served in the military and gone overseas to a combat zone, then you can’t fully understand what it is like for the family members awaiting their safe return. They miss them every minute of every day. It isn’t something they have to consciously think about because it is a constant ache that they carry with them like a headache that won’t go away.

Whether or not you know how they are feeling, there are still things you can do for them. By stepping up and doing something kind for them, you are also honoring the service member and their service to our country. While they have felt a calling to serve their country, it does not ease the pain of missing their family and worrying about their well-being while they are gone.

So, what can you do? The holidays are an especially emotional time for the loved ones left behind, but they could use any of these suggestions year-round. Some spouses of military members who are left home might feel self-sufficient, not thinking that they need help. However, they might not be used to working and running the household all by themselves. Running kids around, keeping up with the laundry, cooking dinner…it can be a full-time job in and of itself. Yes, there are tons of moms or dads who do it every day while maintaining a full-time job. But, when it isn’t their daily routine, it is difficult. It takes adjustment. It’s hard. Offer to take the kids for the afternoon or bring a meal once in a while.

If the spouse that’s left behind is used to running the household, then in some ways, their daily routine may not change much. They may even be used to juggling a full-time job and being a parent and spouse. But, just not having that extra set of hands, that extra driver, that person to sit next to on the couch at the end of the night when the kids are all asleep can feel lonely and tiring. As one military wife said, “Yes, I can do it. Do I like doing it all by myself? No.” They are a team, and they are temporarily down a team member. Again, you can take them a meal or take the kids for the afternoon.

One thing to remember is that military families are usually very self-sufficient. They know how to make things work when their service member husband or wife is away, so it may look like they don’t need any help. They may not NEED it, but it sure would be a blessing to them! Maybe you could mow the lawn for them once a month or ask if there are any repairs that need to be done around the house. They probably won’t ask which is why you should.

We hope you found that helpful and will choose to reach out to a military family that you know. At Florida Moving Systems we truly respect our service members and their families and would like to thank them for their courage and sacrifices. If you are getting ready for a move, military or otherwise, please give us a call. We are located in Melbourne, FL and move families nationwide. With highly trained movers and state-of-the-art storage facilities, we know we can make your move fantastic! If you are in the Cocoa, Palm Bay, or Viera areas and need qualified movers or a storage facility, please call us today.

Spring Breeze, Dazzling Daffodil, Apple Orchard – Huh?

You might be confused by the title of this blog. Well, as promised, it is the follow-up to our laundry blog. Those are just some of the names you might find on the bottles of laundry detergent and fabric softener in the laundry aisle of your favorite store. There has to be more to choosing these items than the smell, right? If only it were that easy, we could breeze down the aisle and grab the first scent that caught our eye, then be on our merry way. In actuality, it takes a little more thought than that.

Turning a Big Move Into a Big Vacation

Moving is a big task even when it’s just across town. Some of you may be getting ready to make moves from one state to another or even from one coast to another. At Florida Moving Systems, we like to give travel tips to help make your move as easy and fun as possible. We know that most of you don’t associate the word fun with a move, but the two can go hand-in-hand.

To help us illustrate our point, we decided to talk with a family that made a coast-to-coast move from California to Florida. While this drive could technically be done in three or four days, that is a lot of driving in a very short period of time. That isn’t super fun. So, we wanted to know what this family did to turn their big move into a big vacation.

Moving to Central Florida

Central Florida is a broad description. There’s the west coast, middle, and east coast. You would think Central Florida just means smack in the middle, but nope! It stretches from one side of the state to the next and embraces everything in between! You may be moving to Central Florida from another state or just another part of the Sunshine State. Either way, you are in for a treat.
